Rubrics for World Languages

Evaluating Classroom Performance and Proficiency

A. Performance - rubrics for performance assessments at the end of a unit.
B. Proficiency - rubrics for comprehensive tasks, assessments or exams and gathering OTES high-quality student data (HQSD).

Performance Rubrics

Evaluate performance-based assessments at the end of a chapter or unit. The same rubric will be used for all language levels, but scores are based on the expectations for the level of the assessment.  Each rubric has two pages that can be used together or independently:

  1. Single-point rubric with additional space for student self-reflection or teacher feedback. Use this page to quickly score the assessment and to note areas of strength and areas for improvement.

  2. Full rubric with criteria for Strong, Good, Developing or Emerging evidence of the targeted performance level. Use this page for more detailed scoring. There is also a gradebook conversion chart on the bottom of this page.

Proficiency Rubrics

Determine specific classroom proficiency levels on comprehensive assessments, tasks or exams, and use to gather high-quality student data (HQSD) for OTES 2.0. Each rubric has two pages that can be used together or independently:

  1. Single-point rubric with additional space for student self-reflection or teacher feedback. Use this page to quickly score the assessment and to note areas of strength and areas for improvement.

  2. Full rubric with detailed descriptors for Meeting, Exceeding, or Partially Meeting criteria for the Novice Mid to Advanced Low proficiency levels. Use this page to determine the proficiency level or to inform the single-point rubric score at a deeper level.
