Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Test Fee Reimbursement

2025-2026 Fee Reimbursement

The Ohio Department of Education & Workforce believes that Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and the College-Level Examination Program are important parts of high school improvement and academic achievement. Consequently, the Department is providing funds to reduce the costs of the Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests for eligible students from low-income families.

This year Ohio legislation continues the funding that reduces Advanced Placement test fees and for high school students who take the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) for students from low-income families  The Department will pay a portion of  the remaining balance of fees for qualifying public and non-public school students taking the Advanced Placement tests or the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) using the new funds from the state budget. The federal Title IV funds will also pay for the International Baccalaureate test fees. The eligible low-income students will have lowered test fees.

Advanced Placement

For public and non-public school students qualifying for the College Board fee reduction of $37 per exam, the state of Ohio will pay:
  • $33 per AP Exam (including AP Seminar and AP Research Exams)

Schools are also expected to forgo their $9 rebate for these students. The final fee paid by  schools for any AP Exam (including AP Seminar and AP Research Exams) for a fee-reduced student is $20.

What Schools Must Do

Your school's AP coordinator must take the following steps.

Before the exams:
  • For your invoice to accurately reflect any fee reductions, the AP coordinator must indicate the fee reduction status for each eligible student in AP Registration and Ordering
    • For each student who is eligible for the College Board fee reduction, check the box for Reduced Fee next to their name in the student roster.
    • For students who aren't eligible for the fee reduction, no action is needed.
  • Fee reduction status is indicated only once per student, not for each exam.
  • A best practice is to indicate fee reduction status for each student by the time you submit your exam order. However, if you need more time to verify this information, you can update students' fee reduction status through AP Registration and Ordering after submitting your exam order, but no later than April 30, 2026 (11:59 p.m. ET)
After the exams:
  • Your invoice is automatically generated in AP Registration and Ordering and emailed to you after the late-testing administration ends. At that point, you can also access and print your invoice through AP Registration and Ordering.
  • College Board will bill the Department directly for $33 per AP Exam per fee-reduced student.
  • June 15, 2026, is the postmark deadline for payment due to College Board.
  • AP coordinators do not need to send a copy of their invoice to the Department.

College-Level Examination Program
For public and non-public school students qualifying for the College Board fee reduction of $44 per exam, the state of Ohio will pay:

  • $33 per CLEP exam
  • The student will pay $20 per exam.

What Schools Must Do

The CLEP coordinator must complete the “steps” and review the “Important Notes” on the State Funding Available for CLEP page. The page also provides an overview of CLEP’s state funding program, along with essential links and other key information.

Please note: To ensure discounts are accurately reflected on invoices, the CLEP coordinator must complete a brief survey by the requested deadline, confirming the number of CLEP vouchers used by students eligible for the reduced fee.

International Baccalaureate

International Baccalaureate (IB) coordinators will complete the International Baccalaureate reimbursement invoice form.  The criteria for student eligibility also applies for fee reimbursement for IB tests.

The IB test fee of $119 will be covered by the Department for eligible low-income students. The final fee for the student is $0.
