Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction within Remote Learning Environments

A significant amount of research within blended or hybrid learning settings is emerging along with implications for educator practice in remote environments. The Department partnered with the Region 8 Comprehensive Center Network to synthesize research and scholarship from across the fields of (1) instructional design and delivery in remote/distance literacy learning, (2) home-school partnerships for children’s literacy and social and emotional learning and (3) new literacies of online research and reading comprehension. More details on this research and implications for educators is available on the website Evidence-based Literacy Instruction within Remote and Blended/Hybrid Learning Environments.

The website includes information on teaching reading online, engaging new literacies in a hybrid environment and utilizing family partnerships to promote students’ success. The website also contains the white paper Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction within Remote Learning Environments which provides an overview of the research on remote learning and highlights implications for educators.

Kindergarten-Grade 5 Remote Literacy Planning and Discussion Guide

The Kindergarten-Grade 5 Remote Literacy Planning and Discussion Guide was developed to support Kindergarten-Grade 5 building leadership teams and teacher-based teams in designing literacy instruction for the 2020-2021 school year. The guide assumes districts and schools have developed re-entry plans for the 2020-2021 school year and asks teams to consider these components within the context of their local plan and curricular tools.
