Student and Family Supports for English Learners

Parents, families, and caregivers of English learners are trusted partners in education.  Schools and districts are encouraged to carefully plan inclusive, two-way communication practices to engage families of English learners to support children’s learning at home and in school. 

Engagement and Partnership 

  • Family and community engagement includes effective family engagement practices while outlining ways to develop trust and communication for the betterment of everyone.            
  • Communication with families provides suggestions and resources for schools and districts to create inclusive, two-way communication practices to engage families of English learners in supporting their child’s learning at home and in school.  
  • Enrolling and Supporting Displaced and Newcomer Students includes information to meet the needs of displaced and newcomer students as they are welcomed into a new school. Needed services may include academic and non-academic supports.   
  • International and Foreign Exchange Students is a comprehensive resource to help Ohio schools and districts welcome and support international exchange students.
