Value-Added and High-Quality Student Data

Value-added analysis helps educators measure the impact schools and teachers have on students’ academic progress rates from year to year. Ohio selected a value-added measure that provides educators with information on how they can use data to focus instruction. Evaluators of teachers who have value-added measures must use them as one source of high-quality student data in the teacher's evaluation.

About Ohio’s Value-Added Model

Value-added measures differ from state to state. Ohio selected its value-added model after thousands of the state’s educators used this analytical approach to see how students were progressing and which teaching methods were having the greatest impact.

Because many teachers began using value-added information years before it was incorporated into the teacher evaluation system, Ohio laid a firm foundation for using this information to support professional learning and student achievement.
