Learning Management System FAQs

Who can access the LMS to take courses?
The LMS is an available application in the OH|ID portal for those that have:
  • an active Ohio, PreK-12 license or who have submitted an application for a State of Ohio education credential (this includes a Pupil Activity Permit) and
  • fully set up their OH|ID account (see below for details)
To fully set up your OH|ID account, you must log in to the OH|ID portal and select and complete the Educator Licensure and Records (CORE) Set-up. You will need to follow the directions provided by that application to fully set up your OH|ID account and connect it to education applications within the OH|ID portal. It is possible it will connect immediately, and you will then be able to scroll through the applications under your “Dashboard” to find the Learning Management System or it can take up to 24 hours to connect.

If you have fully set up your OH|ID account, waited 24 hours, and met all the above criteria and still do not see the LMS application, then you will need to reach out to OH|ID Portal support as we do not have access to that system. Their contact information is: is Profile.Help@education.ohio.gov or 1-877-644-6338

Can teachers use this system to earn continuing education units (CEUs) for licensure renewal?
*Please note that the terms “clock hours” and “contact hours” may be used synonymously throughout the FAQs.

In Ohio, Local Professional Development Committees (LPDCs) award CEUs to educators. The LPDC can use the clock or contact hours earned from professional learning experiences (including those in the LMS) to use toward meeting clock hour / CEU requirements for licensure renewal. The courses within the LMS each provide a syllabus that includes a recommended number of clock or contact hours for course completion.

Would I be able to use the course credit (contact hours certificate) towards my license renewal/recertification via Ohio Department of Education & Workforce?
That is dependent as to whether the course aligns to your Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) and that would be determined / approved through your Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC). If you are not currently teaching and working under an LPDC, you would need to contact the Office of Educator Licensure at the Department to inquire as to what type of hours can be used for license renewal and options for working with a LPDC. Their contact information is: 614-466-3593 or educator.licensure@SBOE.ohio.gov .

Will enrolling in the courses ensure course credit?
*Please note that the terms “clock hours” and “contact hours” may be used synonymously throughout the FAQs.

Each course is different. Some courses award contact hour certificates and some do not. A list of the courses and whether they award a certificate or not can be found here. Regardless of whether a contact hour certificate is awarded or not, those wanting to take the courses for hours toward renewing their license under their Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) should contact their Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC) to confirm the courses align with their plan and to seek pre-approval and inquire regarding any requirements from the LPDC.

How can I document my work in a course taken in the LMS?
Each course contains a generic Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC) reflection form that can be used by the LPDC to award hours or the LPDC may have their own form that they request an educator use. There is also a syllabus for each course that includes the suggested number of hours for each course.
