Program History

The Ohio Resident Educator Program, begun in 2011, is a comprehensive teacher induction program resulting in eligibility for professional licensure. The locally implemented program can be envisioned as a journey of continued professional learning, leading educators to more effective practices and excellence in teaching.

Effective with the 2023-2024 school year, House Bill 442 (135th General Assessmbly) changed the Ohio Resident Educator Program from a four-year program to a two-year program.

Requirements of the program include successful completion of two years of locally determined mentoring activities as well as the Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA).
