Getting Ready for the AASCD

The 2023 AASCD test administration window is Feb. 27-April 21. On-time materials are due in districts Feb. 13, and the additional paper order window is open in TIDE from Feb. 13-April 19. All test administrators must receive training before administering the AASCD. Districts can use the optional online Test Administration Certification Course on the AASCD test portal or contact their local State Support Team (SST) for information regarding additional training opportunities to meet this training requirement.

AASCD Braille/Tactile Materials and Policy for Access Limited Blind Mathematics Testers

AASCD students who are blind or visually impaired must test in mathematics using a supplemental or full paper test. These students should not take the online mathematics test. Students who are blind or visually impaired can still test online for the English language arts, science and social studies tests with the Access Limited Blind test setting turned on. A blind or visually impaired student should only receive a paper accommodation test if the student is taking a mathematics test or if the student has a paper accommodation noted in their IEP or 504 Plan.

A selection of braille and tactile graphics is available for order through the Ohio Help Desk for blind and visually impaired students taking paper accommodation tests (supplemental or full paper). This is not a full braille form; these materials mainly consist of tactile graphics that have been deemed too extensive to expect districts to create locally. The majority of the supplemental and paper materials will need to be produced locally for students who require it. See section 3.2.4 of the Spring 2023 AASCD Supplemental Instructions for Paper Testing manual for more information on substitutions and adaptations for paper accommodation materials. Test coordinators must contact the Ohio Help Desk as soon as possible and no later than April 3 to request these materials. A selection of orderable braille/tactile materials is available for the following grades and subjects only:
  • ELA: High School
  • Math: Grades 3 - High School
  • Science: Grades 5, 8, High School
  • Social Studies: High School

More information on conducting the AASCD using braille materials is available in Appendix B of the Spring 2023 AASCD Supplemental Instructions for Paper Testing manual.
