Students with IEPs and Graduation

Students in the classes of 2023 and beyond are required to meet a new set of Ohio’s graduation requirements. This includes earning all required credits, demonstrating competency, and earning two diploma seals. Students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) may also graduate via other options based on the IEP team’s decision per Ohio Revised Code 3323.0 but are encouraged to earn a diploma by meeting the same requirements as their peers. It is important that the IEP team carefully consider the use of these options so as not to lower expectations and limit student opportunities for post-school engagement.

Paper Test Option for the 2023-2024 Third-Grade Assessments

Ohio law allows the option of paper or online administration for third-grade state assessments (Ohio State Tests and the Alternate Assessment for Students with the Most Significant Cognitive Disabilities). A district board of education or governing authority must make the choice to use paper tests and submit a board or governing authority resolution to the Department by May 1 for the following school year.

District superintendents and test coordinators received a secure link from Ohio Meetings in December to specify which grade 3 assessments (English language arts, mathematics or both) they will administer in paper format for the 2023-2024 school year and to upload the resolution authorizing that choice.

A district or community school does not need to submit a resolution if it:

  • gives only online tests to third graders. (Paper accommodations will still be available as accessibility features without a board or governing authority resolution.); or
  • does not test third graders.

If you have questions about accessing or submitting the form or do not believe you received the December email, please contact Ohio Meetings at ohiomeetings@cambiumassessment.com

Family Portal Page

A new family page will launch in January 2023 on each of the Ohio assessment test portals. This page will contain information and resources geared for families for each of the Ohio tests.  Look for future communications on this launch over the next month.

New Training Opportunities

A series of webinars and videos will be offered by Cambium Assessment and the Department from January through May 2023 covering a variety of topics, including using TIDE, the Test Delivery System and the Centralized Reporting System. Watch for future communication for specific information on each training opportunity.
