Age Requirements
What are the age requirements to take the Ohio HSE?
- Age requirement change for 16-, 17- and 18-year-old test takers including:
- A test taker who is 16, 17, or 18 will be eligible to test under the following guidelines:
- Officially withdrawn from school and has not received a high school diploma or honors diploma; and
- A test taker who is 18 years of age, must submit a current school year withdrawal form signed by a school official; and
- A test taker who is 16 or 17 years of age must submit a consent form signed by either the parent, guardian or court official, and a current school year withdrawal form signed by a school official; and
- Send the consent and current school year withdrawal form signed by a school official to: State of Ohio HSE Office, Ohio Department of Education & Workforce, 25 S. Front Street, MS 622, Columbus, Ohio 43215

Out of state or out of country test takers
Can a person from out of state or out of country take the HSE test in Ohio?
In order to take the HSE test in the state of Ohio a individual must be a resident of Ohio and provide a government issued, non-expired, identification at the time of testing.
Acceptable
government issued identification include:
- Driver’s license
- Learner’s permit
- Passport
- National, state, country identification card
Please note that if your government issued identification does
not include your Ohio address you must provide additional documentation listing your name and your Ohio address. Acceptable documentation includes:
- Utility bill
- Rental lease
- Bank statement
- Automotive registration

Applicants who are 16 - 18 years of age will need to include the ETS ID number on the withdrawal and parental consent form. The ETS ID number will be emailed to you after your application has been created.
