VITAL STATISTICS DATA ELEMENT DEFINITIONS ========================================= IN ORDER TO HELP THE USERS, THE DEFINITIONS OF THE DATA ELEMENTS SHOWN ON THE VITALS REPORT ARE GIVEN BELOW: Demographic Data Fall Enrollment = Kindergarten thru grade 12 enrollment or minus unauthorized attendance (Total ADM) minus out of state enrollment plus non-attending pupils Spring Enrollment = (Aggregate days of attendance plus aggregate days of absence) divided by totals days in session Minority Percent = Non-white enrollment divided by total enrollment ADC percent = Number of ADC children divided by (Total ADM - 50% Kindergarten ADM) Average Income = Average Income per tax return as supplied by Department of Taxation Property Val/Pupil = Total assessed valuation divided by total ADM Fiscal Data Tot Rev/Pupil = Sum of revenues from local, intermediate, (Gen or All funds) state and federal sources divided by spring ADM for FY89 and up else divided by (spring ADM minus 75% JVS FTE) State Rev/Pupil (G) = Revenues from State sources (Gen fund only) divided by spring ADM for FY89 and up else divided by (spring ADM minus 75% JVS FTE) Loc Rev/Pupil (G) = Revenues from Local sources (Gen fund only) divided by spring ADM for FY89 and up else divided by (spring ADM minus 75% JVS FTE) Expenditure/Pupil = Total current operating expenditures (Adjusted (General or All funds) from FY93 on) divided by spring ADM for FY89 and up else by (spring ADM minus 75% JVS FTE). Effective Mills = Taxes received from all real properties multiplied by 1,000 divided by total real property valuation. Effective millage which we show for FY88 is actually from tax year 1986 (Calendar) collectible in calendar year 1987. The number of districts in each group is indicated at the top of the column. Ranks are high to low with no implications of quality.
