Department User Profiles

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce will launch an updated user profile creation process on March 1, 2024.  The new approach focuses on improving the customer experience by simplifying the process and modernizing the user interface.

User Profile versus OHID Account

A user profile is different than an OHID account.

An OHID account is required to access the OHID App Store.  Consider OHID to be the “front door” to State of Ohio applications. Because Department of Education and Workforce Applications are found in the App Store, logging in with an OHID account is required.  Most people only need one OHID account.  So, if you already have an OHID account, you do not need to create a new one.  But if you do not have an OHID account yet, creating an account is a necessary first step.

To provide relevant and appropriate services, Department applications almost always need to know more information about a person than is provided by the OHID account alone.  Therefore, like most online services, the Department maintains a user profile for each person.  Example information stored in the user profile is address and contact information.  Some applications with stronger identity verification requirements may need additional information.  To enhance data privacy, only the data required for a requested application will be collected.

When someone runs a Department of Education and Workforce application in the App Store, we will check to see if this is a new or returning user.  New users will be asked to create a Department user profile before they can continue into the application.

Time Commitment

Creating a new user profile only takes a couple of minutes in most cases.  Information from your OHID account will be reused where possible, saving some time while also reducing errors from entering conflicting information by mistake.  Significant time improvements will be seen where identity verification or “potential duplicate profile” issues may be reduced ahead of time, since those are issues requiring Department support teams to address and can take a few days to complete.
