Standards review advisory committees hold first meeting to review comments

Representatives from 18 statewide educational organizations serving on advisory committees held their first meeting April 14 concerning the review of Ohio’s Learning Standards in English language arts and mathematics. During this initial session, committee members learned about the results of the standards revision survey conducted Feb. 23 through April 5. They also began the process of reviewing all comments pertaining to the standards in their subject areas – a process they will continue on their own and at meetings in April or May. Members of advisory committees, which are each chaired by two content experts, will provide direction to working groups of teachers who will draft the actual revisions to the standards selected.

Competition promotes innovative fitness curriculum

Jake Steinfeld, fitness expert and chairman of the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils, has selected the state of Ohio to kick off its National Fitness Champion campaign to help fight childhood obesity.

Comment period now open for revisions to Ohio’s Learning Standards in English language arts and math

The Ohio Department of Education invites Ohioans to submit suggestions through April 5 as part of a periodic revision process for Ohio’s Learning Standards in English language arts and math. This feedback will help ensure the standards continue reflecting the most recent research and the experience of educators as they help students become ready for college and careers.

Nominations open through March 11 for standards revision working committees in English language arts and mathematics

Through Friday, March 11, educators who have expertise in Ohio’s Learning Standards for English language arts or mathematics may nominate themselves or colleagues to serve on working committees for a standards review process. We are seeking content experts with experience ranging from kindergarten through higher education.
