The department presented a summary of activity at the May 11-13 State Board meeting concerning the work of advisory committees and working groups of educators who are involved in revising Ohio’s Learning Standards in English language arts and mathematics.
Representatives from 18 statewide educational organizations serving on advisory committees held their first meeting April 14 concerning the review of Ohio’s Learning Standards in English language arts and mathematics. During this initial session, committee members learned about the results of the standards revision survey conducted Feb. 23 through April 5. They also began the process of reviewing all comments pertaining to the standards in their subject areas – a process they will continue on their own and at meetings in April or May. Members of advisory committees, which are each chaired by two content experts, will provide direction to working groups of teachers who will draft the actual revisions to the standards selected.
Test coordinators and test administrators will want to carefully review two updated resources for spring 2016 state testing — the Test Coordinator’s Manual and Directions for Administration Manual. The Test Administration Web page at education.ohio.gov provides descriptions and links to these and other resources — such as guidance documents, practice resources and tutorials — posted on the Ohio’s State Tests Portal.
