Industry-Recognized Credentials List for 2016-2017 School Year
This list includes industry-recognized credentials used for school and district report cards. Moving forward, this list will be reviewed and updated annually. | Visit the industry-recognized credentials webpage
Industry-recognized credentials can also be used to qualify students in the Class of 2018 and beyond for high school graduation. For more information on high school graduation requirements, visit the Ohio Department of Education website.
How was the list built?
The State Board of Education approved methodology for building the credential list in September 2014. Credentials can be added to the list in two ways.
- Credentials tied to Ohio’s In-Demand Occupations are included on the list.
- The public may submit credentials to the Department for consideration using the application posted below.
The initial list includes only credentials identified as related to Ohio’s In-Demand Occupations. Credentials related to Information Technology are excluded from the initial publication of the list, pending workgroup recommendations on the bundling of credentials in this industry.
Community stakeholders, including schools, districts, parents, and businesses may submit credentials to the Ohio Department of Education for consideration. | Credential Application
This year’s list will be updated this spring after all applications from the public are reviewed. Applications are due on June 1, 2015, for credentials to be considered for addition to the list for the 2014-2015 school year. Applications received after March 1, 2015, will be reviewed for inclusion on the 2015-2016 school year list.
Per the State Board of Education, credentials must have significant and ongoing demand in order to be considered.
