The Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (S-EBT)
The Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (S-EBT) is a brand-new program starting in summer 2024. Like the Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT), S-EBT provides a one-time $120 cash grocery benefit to purchase nutritious foods in the summertime. S-EBT recipients can also receive meals at Summer Food Service Program sites.

Children approved in school year 2023-2024 for free or reduced-price meals are eligible for S-EBT. Children enrolled in Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) or Provision 2 schools must have a current school year free or reduced-price meal certification; schools are not permitted to submit their full student enrollment. There will be a statewide S-EBT online application available on or around April 15 for households with children in CEP and Provision 2 schools who do not have a current year certification for free or reduced-price meal benefits to apply should they feel they would qualify for free or reduced price meal benefits.

In May, schools will be asked to share their lists of free and reduced-price meal certified students via a secure link for S-EBT purposes. The data file configuration is the same as the past P-EBT summer data file configuration.

The Department’s Office of Nutrition and the Management Council are holding a webinar on April 4 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The webinar is for EMIS coordinators to learn about S-EBT. Student eligibility and data submission processes will be discussed. The following link can be used to join the webinar on April 4: S-EBT Webinar for EMIS Coordinators.

An S-EBT webpage is forthcoming and will include the link to the application for families.
