Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Fee Reimbursement Program

The Ohio Department of Education’s Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Fee Reimbursement Program provides financial support students from low-income families taking Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams. Through a federal grant, the ODE aims to open accessibility, increase participation of low-income students in academically rigorous coursework in public and nonpublic schools and narrow the economic achievement gap. The AP/IB Test Fee program assists school districts with high numbers of minority and low-income students to transform their high schools into educational institutions where all students can be successful and prepared for a global economy and postsecondary education or certification. During the past eight years of the fee waiver program, Ohio has seen an increase in the number of students completing science, English, social sciences, computer and math Advanced Placement coursework and assessments. The Ohio Department of Education is committed to expanding Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate opportunities equitably with an emphasis on addressing the needs of students from low-income families.

The Ohio Department of Education has summited an application for this grant for FY 2015 to cover a portion of the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate examination fees for students from low-income families. The federal contribution for AP tests will be $41, the College Board will cover $29, and schools will waive the $9 school rebate. This leaves a $12 balance. The Ohio Department of Education will use some of its funds to cover the $12 balance that would be covered by the district or family. Consequently, the AP exams for qualifying students will be free of charge for this year.

The federal contribution for International Baccalaureate tests will be $98 which leaves a $12 balance.  The Ohio Department of Education will use some of its funds to cover the $12 balance that would be covered by the district or family. Consequently, the IB exams for qualifying students will be free of charge for this year,

Remember that reimbursement is contingent on receiving the grant money.

The College Board is scheduled to provide the live link to their website for the reimbursement invoice form on May 4.  The ODE will also provide this link.  Watch for an update.
