National School Lunch Program (NSLP) Equipment Grant

The 2017 Agriculture Appropriations Act authorized the Ohio Department of Education, Office for Child Nutrition to competitively award equipment assistance grants to eligible school food authorities participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). The department received $749,472 for distribution to school food authorities.

These funds will make a significant investment in meeting the unmet need allowing the purchase or renovation of capital (>$5,000) equipment helpful to serve healthier meals, meet the new nutritional standards with emphasis on more fresh fruits and vegetables in school meals, improve food safety and expand accessibility to foodservices.  The funds may not be used to retroactively pay for or reimburse the school for prior equipment purchases.

Priority for the 2017-2018 Equipment Assistance Grant funds will be given to high-need schools (i.e. schools in underserved areas, schools with limited access to other resources, and age of food service equipment) where 50 percent or more of the enrolled students are eligible for free or reduced price meals. Additional priority will be given to schools that did not receive a previous National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant award under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and Fiscal Year 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016  or 2017 Agriculture Appropriations Acts.
