Opportunity for public comment on IDEA Part B funding

4/12/2024

Each year, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce applies to receive a grant award under Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These federal funds are used for the costs of special education and related services for Ohio students with disabilities who are ages 3 to 21. The application must be submitted annually to the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). Upon approval of Ohio's Part B application, the state will receive a federal grant award under Part B of the IDEA for the period of July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.

When Ohio applies for these federal funds, the state submits an application packet that includes a summary of the assurances, certifications, and proposed use of funds to implement Part B of IDEA. Federal law requires that this application be posted for public review and comment.

Ohio’s draft application for Federal Fiscal Year 2024 (State Fiscal year 2025) is now available for public review and comment. Details on this process and the posted draft application are available on the Department’s website.

The Department is accepting public comments from April 9 through May 9. Information on how to submit public comment is available on the IDEA Part B funding webpage.
