More than 200 schools have signed up to use the new SaferOH tip line since the service launched this week. If your school does not have a safety tip line, please consider using this free option, which is open to all public and private schools.

Public comment open for changes in dropout prevention and recovery rule

Last week, the State Board of Education proposed new cut scores for the academic performance and report card system for dropout prevention and recovery schools. These proposed changes were made following the Board’s review of the two most recent years of available data. State law requires this review. The Ohio Department of Education is accepting public comment on these proposed changes through Jan. 9, 2015. Please submit your comments in e-mail to community.schools@education.ohio.gov.

Commodity Food Program is reorganized

The Office for Child Nutrition is currently reviewing and reorganizing its Commodity Foods Program. Schools participating in the National School Lunch Program and/or the Summer Food Service Program receive donated foods from the United States Department of Agriculture. Beginning Jan. 1, 2015, all schools must order commodities directly through the Ohio Department of Education for school year 2015-2016.
