April is Month of the Military Child

More than 20 years ago, the office of the U.S. Secretary of Defense designated each April as the “Month of the Military Child,” and all branches of services provide special days and events to honor their children. This commemoration recognizes the contributions that military children make as their parents, guardians and families serve our nation.

Teacher roster verification is April 15 through May 12

On Wednesday, April 15, each teacher with value-added data at participating districts will receive an email message from the district’s value-added service provider that gives them access to verify rosters through May 12. These teachers will set up attribution for the students they taught, how long they taught them and the percentage of instruction they provided each student. Principals may review and approve rosters as they are completed during the teacher roster verification period and can continue doing so through June 5.

CollegeAdvantage celebrating 25 years of helping families save for higher education with free workshops and college savings giveaways

For 25 years, CollegeAdvantage has been helping families in Ohio and across the country save for college. To kick off the 25th anniversary, CollegeAdvantage will present free introductory workshops on saving for college. The workshops will be held in 25 different cities across the state during April.

Innovative leadership training for STEM school leaders

Principals, assistant principals and other building-level leaders in STEM and other innovative schools have a tuition-free opportunity to learn from national STEM and innovative school leaders. The Innovative Leaders Institute, a year-long training and mentoring experience, creates and grows an Ohio network of innovative STEM school leaders. Watch a short video about the experience of Jason Johnson, principal of West STEM High School, Columbus City Schools, a former participant in the first Innovative Leaders Institute.

New initiatives expand career advising and career-tech opportunities for students

Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, each school district and joint vocational school district must adopt a policy on career advising. The intent is to expand advising services and critical supports that students receive to prepare them for successful futures.
