Ohio’s state tests

As you know, Ohio is moving to a new computer-based assessment system in math, English language arts, science and social studies in spring of 2015. The mid-biennium budget passed in July 2014 allows schools to use a paper and pencil version for all or some of their tests. More information about the ordering process is forthcoming.

Reminder: Aug. 31 is the deadline to apply for free school meals for all students in low-income communities

Community Eligibility is a provision that helps schools and districts in high poverty communities to serve no-cost lunches and breakfasts to all their students. Interested schools and districts must apply for Community Eligibility through the Ohio Department of Education, Office for Child Nutrition.

Ohio Controlling Board Approves $144 Million in Straight A Fund Grants

The Ohio Controlling Board approved 37 grant applications involving nearly 200 schools, districts and their partners that were recommended as part of Ohio’s Straight A Fund to encourage innovation in classrooms and emphasize collaboration and efficiency.

State Board adopts promotion score for 2014-2015 Third Grade Reading Guarantee

The Third Grade Reading Guarantee requires that third-graders must show a level of proficiency on the Ohio Achievement Assessment in order to be promoted. Law requires the State Board of Education to raise the cut score for promotion each year the third-grade English language arts assessment is given until it reaches the proficient level.
