Superintendents to have Principal Value-Added Composite Reports next week

In next week’s EdConnection, the department will explain to superintendents how to access within SAFE the individualized Principal Value-Added Composite reports to assist them in completing principal and assistant principal evaluations this year. The reports will include a multi-year composite score based on Value-Added measures from the buildings where the principals and assistant principals served in these roles during the years beginning in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Third Grade Reading Guarantee Parent Roadmaps now available

The Ohio Department of Education is introducing Parent Roadmaps, which provide parents with scenarios of the interventions and assessments that their children will receive each year from Kindergarten to Grade 4 as they pertain to the guarantee.

National School Nurse Day is May 7

National School Nurse Day was established to celebrate the specialty practice of school nursing and applaud the contributions schools nurses make every day to improve the safety, health and academic success of all students. The Ohio Department of Health asks superintendents to recognize school nurses in their districts on this national day of recognition.

Teacher Roster Verification period concludes Tuesday, May 13

If your district is participating in roster verification of 2013-2014 Value-Added data, please remember that the teacher portion of the process will conclude May 13. Principals and/or support teams are asked to ensure that their teachers have begun the process of setting up instructional attribution for the students they taught, how long they taught them and the percentage of instruction they provided each student. From May 14 to June 3, principals will review staff attributions and alerts before giving final approval.

Training opens May 15 for teacher and principal evaluators to “re-calibrate” their credentials

If you are an administrator or teacher who became a credentialed evaluator during the past two years for either the Ohio Teacher or Principal Evaluation System, you will be able to renew your designation beginning May 15 by successfully completing training and a test. The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching, which administered the original credentialing for the Ohio Department of Education, also developed the required re-calibration training and tests for each designation. Teacher evaluators are required to take three hours of online training; principal evaluators must take two hours of online training; and all evaluators will need to pass the appropriate test.

Deadline is June 1 for all remaining RESA tasks

The electronic system capturing data for the Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA) indicates that a high percentage of the 3,343 teachers who are taking the assessment this year have either not yet started the four remaining tasks or are still in process of submitting them.
