Register for the next Every Student Succeeds Act webinar about the English learner report card indicator

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires Ohio to develop English Language Proficiency Standards that are derived from the domains of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students also must be assessed annually on their progress in learning English. States must use that test to develop one or more English language learner indicators that measure English learners’ progress in attaining proficiency in English.

Data appeal window open for retention and summer third grade English language arts and reading

Beginning Thursday, Sept. 1, through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, superintendents of traditional districts, community schools and STEM districts may review retention and summer third grade English language arts and reading assessment data reported during the 2016-2017 school year and submit data appeals in cases where the results for a student in the Third Grade Promotion Rate in the Secure Data Center are incorrect based on inaccurate reported data or assessment vendor data. Districts will not be required to report the 2016-2017 summer third grade English language arts and reading assessment data via EMIS; the department will leverage the assessment vendor file.
