June 30 deadline: district surveys on diabetes and epi-pen auto-injectors

Please remember to complete two surveys — one is related to diabetes management and the other is on epinephrine auto-injector (“epi-pen”) procurement — by Tuesday, June 30. These short surveys for the 2014-2015 school year will satisfy your requirements for two state laws.

District access to Ready for Kindergarten Online system requires role registration

The Office of Early Learning and School Readiness sent out a communication last week to test coordinators and elementary building principals with information about the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. A new role is available in the Ohio Educational Directory System (OEDS) called “Assessment Data Manager-Preschool and Kindergarten.”

Additional Days to Hours Guidance Available

The transition from a minimum number of school days each year to minimum hours of instruction has raised additional questions about procedural and administrative requirements. The Days to Hours FAQ, available on the ODE web, has been updated to include additional data reporting information and expanded discussions on nontraditional schools and special education students. Changes to District Special Education Annual Report

Every year, school districts receive a report on the performance of their special education programs, known as their Special Education Determination. Districts submit final data on measures of procedural compliance through the Education Management Information System for this report. The department uses these data to make one of four district determinations – Meets Requirements, Needs Assistance, Needs Intervention or Needs Substantial Intervention.
