ACT Compass to discontinue placement product program

ACT Compass is a computer-adaptive college placement test used to help educators place students in college-level courses. After evaluating product program data, feedback and trends, ACT Compass has decided to phase out all ACT Compass products (ACT Asset, Windows Compass, eCompass and Compass 5.0) by Dec. 31, 2016.

The Ohio Association for Career Technical Education will host its summer conference, Connections to Education, in Columbus. The pre-conference on July 27, dedicates a full-day to Career Connections and implementing practices to support career advising.

Updated Principal’s Toolkit now posted on the Ohio Department of Education website

The Ohio Department of Education’s Office of Communications and Outreach has updated its Principal’s Toolkit for the 2015-2016 school year. Focused on the principal’s role of communicating with teachers and families, the toolkit contains resources that can make the job easier.

Middle School Waivers for career-technical education

The Ohio Department of Education is currently developing an electronic process for submitting middle school waiver resolutions. The department will notify all superintendents by email once the process is complete.

June 30 deadline to submit request for students in grades 7-12 to take college courses for the 2015-2016 school year

School just let out, but many homeschool and nonpublic students in grades 7-12 now are making sure they have the opportunity to take college courses when school begins in August. They have until June 30 to submit an application to the Ohio Department of Education to request funding for courses they want to take next school year. The department is extending the deadline from June 15 to the end of the month to give students more time to take advantage of this exciting new education option.
