New State Tests: Nov. 21 is the deadline to order paper test materials for the Spring 2015 English Language Arts and Mathematics tests

To order paper formats for the spring 2015 PARCC tests, your school or district must use the PearsonAccess Next system. Pearson or Max Xu in the department’s Office of Curriculum and Assessment assigned your district test coordinator a username, which provides access to PearsonAccess Next. The district test coordinator will register students and place your order for the paper test materials you will need. This includes student labels for grades 3-8 and high school English language arts and mathematics for the test administration. The deadline is Friday, Nov. 21, to order for the performance-based tests in February and March. If you need assistance with your username or password, email Max.Xu@education.ohio.gov. Updated edition of PARCC manual now available

The third edition of the PARCC Accessibility Features and Accommodations Manual is now available. This edition is a comprehensive accessibility policy document that provides guidance to districts and decision-making teams to ensure that the PARCC performance-based and end-of-year assessments provide valid results for all participating students. Supporting appendices have been updated on the PARCC website.

Apply for national career technical education program recognition

The deadline for the second annual Excellence in Action award for superior career technical education programs is 5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Interested Ohio career technical schools must show excellence in implementing Career Clusters and impacting student achievement and success. The National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium will make selections. The association will honor all winners at an awards ceremony on April 8, 2015, in Washington, D.C.

Educators can now access four sets of online resources within the Battelle for Kids Ohio portal related to “assessment literacy,” or the ability to select and design high-quality assessments. The professional development materials are appropriate for all educators but are especially helpful for those developing measures of student growth through student learning objectives.

Encore HealthierUS School Challenge application webinar, Nov. 20

An encore application webinar for the the HealthierUS School Challenge will be held Nov. 20. HealthierUS School Challenge is a voluntary program that provides financial awards to schools that encourage their students to make healthy school food choices and be more physically active. All schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program are eligible to participate.

Guidance document available on status of USDA food orders for NSLP

Deputy administrator of the Supplemental Nutrition and Safety Program Diane Kriviski has issued information and guidance on the current status of USDA foods orders for the National School Lunch Program. The memorandum discusses issues in fulfilling orders for a variety of protein products for school year 2014-2015.

FedEx donates Boeing aircraft to Beavercreek City Schools for STEM classroom

A retired Boeing 727-200F aircraft operated by FedEx Express will complete one more flight Thursday, Nov. 20, when it lands at Dayton International Airport. The aircraft will then be renovated into a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) classroom for Beavercreek City School District. The aircraft will help Dayton and surrounding area students succeed in school, mobilize future talent and cultivate a workforce that is prepared to meet the technical and transportation career challenges of the future.
