Download the English Learner Educator Toolkit - Newcomer Supplement from the English Language Proficiency Assessment for the 21st Century (ELPA21). The latest toolkit complements the original English Learner Educator Toolkit released last school year, adding practical resources for educators of multilingual students who are new to U.S. schools. The newcomer toolkit includes:
- English language performance measures to give educators information about how well students read, write, listen to and speak English;
- Tip sheets for assisting newcomer families with their transition to U.S. schools;
- Family questionnaires to collect information and promote a meaningful home-school connection; and
- Infographics about the culture, education and demographics of students arriving from Ukraine, Afghanistan and Central America.
The newcomer toolkit is available at no cost to Ohio educators through May 31. After May 31, it will be available for purchase. Contact the Department’s Office of Assessment with questions at statetests@education.ohio.gov or (614) 466-1317.
