Register for the 2024 Summer Summit: Celebrate the Plate to prepare for providing summer food access

1/8/2024

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce’s Office of Nutrition is hosting the annual Summer Summit, themed Celebrate the Plate, on Feb. 5, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Quest Conference Center in Westerville. The summit will allow summer meal program providers, community partners, and Summer Food Service Program stakeholders to improve summer food access across Ohio.

Register for the event at 2024 Summer Food Summit Registration. Registered attendees will receive a confirmation email before the event.

Summit session topics will include sourcing local foods for summer meals, the rural non-congregate option, procurement, innovative menus, mobile meal programming, recipe standardization, developing creative community partnerships, and more.

The Department administers the Summer Food Service Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The program reimburses sponsors for costs to provide meals for children 18 years of age and younger during periods when they are out of school. In summer 2023, more than 1,500 Ohio sites served more than 5 million meals. Summer meal sites provide activities, education, and services to nourish the whole child. These meal sites include Ohio parks, libraries, playgrounds, recreation centers, schools, hospitals, and more.

For more information about the Summer Summit, visit the Ohio Summer Food Service Program webpage or email Hannah Hart at Hannah.Hart@education.ohio.gov.
