No-cost learning opportunity provides strategies to address mental health needs of students and educators

On March 12, the Ohio Deans Compact on Exceptional Children, in collaboration with the Department, will host an event to address the mental health and wellness needs of students and staff. Attendees will learn about strategies to support students experiencing homelessness, evidence-based prevention and intervention programs, and trauma-informed practices.

RecoveryOhio hosting addiction response virtual training

RecoveryOhio is sponsoring the Ohio Child and Family Services Responding to Addiction virtual training Friday, March 22. The training is open at no cost to all child and family service workers interested in learning more about addiction and building the skills to respond. Register by March 11.

OCALICONLINE 2024 now accepting session proposals

OCALICONLINE, the annual premier autism and disabilities conference to be held Nov. 19-22, is accepting proposals for panel discussions, facilitated discussions, research posters, demonstrations, and traditional lectures. The deadline to submit proposals is April 2.

New Rules for Public Comment

The Department regularly posts rules for public comment. Recently, draft rules related to the state’s seal of biliteracy and delivery of services were opened for public comment. Newly drafted rules related to the identification, instruction, assessment, and reclassification of English learners also opened for comment.

Celebrate art with Drawing with Mr. J video series

March is Youth Arts Month and Arts in Education Month. To celebrate, bring WOSU’s Drawing with Mr. J video series into the classroom. The Emmy award-winning series for students in kindergarten through fifth grade features Ohio’s 2018 Teacher of the Year Jonathan Juravich. Each engaging episode offers a simple drawing lesson while Mr. J helps students understand their feelings and learn people skills.
