No cost, self-paced professional development series available on developing emergent literacy skills

11/13/2023

Early childhood classrooms lay the foundation for children's reading success and kindergarten readiness. To achieve this, educators plan and engage in play-based learning activities that focus on developing emergent literacy skills such as phonological awareness, print knowledge, oral language and vocabulary.

In Ohio, early childhood educators can participate in self-paced professional learning on emergent literacy through Cox Campus. This coursework is always at no cost and is Ohio-approved through the Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association, allowing educators to expand their professional knowledge of emergent and early language and literacy development for children from birth to kindergarten entry. Moreover, early childhood educators can receive a credential from the Rollins Center for Language and Literacy based on the level of coursework they complete.
