Teaching & Learning Conditions Survey: TELL Ohio


In 2013, the Department partnered with New Teacher Center and other education organizations using Race to the Top funds to develop and pilot a teaching and learning conditions survey. Research shows that teaching and learning conditions are associated with improved student achievement and teacher retention.
 
The Teaching, Empowering, Leading and Learning (TELL) Ohio Survey helps districts and schools analyze their current teaching and learning conditions. After multiple pilots, the survey questions have been made available to Ohio districts and schools.
 
The survey includes the following topics:

  • Community Engagement and Support,
  • Teacher Leadership,
  • School Leadership,
  • Managing Student Conduct;
  • Use of Time,
  • Professional Development,
  • Facilities and Resources,
  • Instructional Practices and Support, and
  • New Teacher Support.
 
The survey can be administered at the local level by uploading the questions to a local survey platform. Two forms of the survey are available:
