Celebrating Ohio’s teachers and education professionals

5/2/2022

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week and the perfect time to reflect on the countless ways teachers and other professionals in the education community contribute to the success of Ohio’s students. In fact, there are several days dedicated to honoring specific education professionals. This week, Ohio celebrates:

  • May 1 - School Principals’ Day
  • May 2 - School Bus Driver Appreciation Day
  • May 3 - Teacher Appreciation Day
  • May 6 - School Lunch Hero Day

From their commitment to learning in uncertain times to finding creative ways to engage each student, teachers have a special role in the lives of Ohio’s 1.7 million students. All week long, the Department encourages Ohioans to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. Using #OhioLovesTeachers, add posts on Twitter and Instagram expressing gratitude for teachers and teacher teams and their work to challenge, prepare and empower students to succeed.

Ohio’s 15,000 school bus drivers are the critical link to making sure students arrive safely to school and related activities where learning happens. School leaders can recognize bus drivers by sharing photos and messages of appreciation on Twitter and Instagram and tagging @OHEducation.

Friday is School Lunch Hero Day. School food service teams work rigorously to keep Ohio students fed nutritious meals so they can focus on learning. Share photos and stories honoring school food service professionals. Be sure to tag @OHEducation on Twitter and Instagram and use the hashtag #SchoolLunchHeroDay on social media or email them to Katie Mccurdy. Visit the School Nutrition Association School Lunch Hero Day webpage for more resources to celebrate School Lunch Hero Day.

May 1 kicked off the celebration of education professionals with School Principals’ Day, recognizing principals’ dedication to supporting and leading school communities. In addition to the national celebration, the Ohio legislature designated October as Ohio Principals Month to honor their service and recognize the importance of school leaders in ensuring every child receives a high-quality education.

As a reminder, be sure to use social media appropriately and never post students’ names or photos of students without parental consent.
