The Department regularly posts rules for public comment. However, the Department has not posted any new rules since the last edition of EdConnection. Find previously announced public comment opportunities for rules and related deadlines on the Department’s website. Check back often as additional rules may be added throughout the week.

Recording and resources available from Ohio Statewide Family Engagement Center Annual Summit

The Ohio Statewide Family Engagement Center recently hosted its Annual Summit highlighting the essential role families play in partnering with schools and districts. A presentation by Dr. Meredith Wellman (OSU), Kristy Tucker (Ashland City Schools) and Erica Kaufmann (ESC of Lorain County) featured timely district and regional examples of how schools are communicating with families about reading development, dyslexia, structured literacy and screenings. The recording and handouts are available now.

Upcoming fall events hosted by Ohio Association for Student Leaders

The Ohio Association of Student Leaders is hosting the Student Voice and Civic Engagement Forum Oct. 24, from 7-8:30 p.m. High school students are welcome to join the free, virtual event for a meaningful dialogue with peers. Participants will discuss issues that matter most to students and work together to create solutions.
 
The Ohio Association of Student Leaders also is hosting its 2023 Fall Leadership Retreat Nov. 4-5 at Mohican State Park. Student leaders from across Ohio will learn about leadership and problem-solving. The theme of the retreat is: Communication and Inclusive Communication. The event is open to students in grades 6-12. The cost per person for non-members is $85 and the cost per person for members is $70. The deadline to register is Oct. 20 at 3 p.m.

Students invited to register for Florence Nightingale Day to learn about statistics and data science

The Caucus for Women in Statistics is hosting its sixth annual Florence Nightingale Day event. The Ohio State University will host the event in person and virtually Nov. 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Middle and high school students who are at least 13 years old and not in college or university are welcome to attend.
