Set-up begins in August for electronic Teacher and Principal Evaluation System (eTPES)

On Monday, Aug. 10, the electronic Teacher and Principal Evaluation System (eTPES) will reopen for the school year. Superintendents and superintendent designees who are new to their districts must ensure that their role designations and email addresses are current in the Ohio Educational Directory System by Friday, Aug. 7.

Updated Minor Work Permit system goes live Aug. 3

The Ohio Department of Commerce has announced a new, updated Minor Work Permit system. The data required to issue a Minor Work Permit has not changed, but the process of entering the data is improved.

Health education must include opioid abuse prevention

Recent state legislation requires districts and schools to include opioid abuse prevention in health education curriculum. The Governor’s Cabinet Opiate Action Team made recommendations to the Ohio Department of Education for instruction. The recommendations and resources to help districts and schools are available here.

Ohio’s Learning Standards is now the standard term; removing “New”

Ohio completed the transition from its former academic content standards to Ohio’s New Learning Standards during the 2014-2015 school year. As we approach the 2015-2016 school year, districts and schools no longer consider these standards new. They are fully in place. Ohio’s State Tests are aligned to these standards. Therefore, effective now, the Ohio Department of Education will use the term “Ohio’s Learning Standards” in all information and documents.

State agencies partner to launch free statewide student survey resource

The Ohio departments of Education, Health and Mental Health and Addiction Services are joining with the Ohio National Guard and representatives of educational and youth-serving organizations to roll out the Ohio Healthy Youth Environments Survey — OHYES! The OHYES! survey was developed in response to districts and schools asking for data specific to them and was designed to provide meaningful data for communities.
