School Safety Month Week Two: A focus on emotional safety

It’s the second week of Ohio School Safety Month and this week’s focus is emotional safety. Like physical safety, emotional safety is a key component to a comprehensive school safety approach.

The goal of Ohio School Safety Month, as outlined in Ohio law, is to increase public awareness of school safety programs and to encourage Ohioans to identify their role in keeping Ohio schools a safe place for students to learn and grow. The Ohio Department of Education, in partnership with the departments of Public Safety and Mental Health and Addiction Services will provide school safety information and resources each week. The theme of this month is Know School Safety, Know Your Role – It's Everyone’s Responsibility.

Emotional Safety Week, Oct. 9-15, highlights promotional information on positive school climate, bullying prevention and the Ohio School Wellness Initiative. National Stop Bullying Day occurs during this week Oct. 12.
