The ReadOhio Initiative

In 2023, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine launched the ReadOhio initiative, a statewide effort to raise literacy achievement. State agencies and partner organizations are collaborating to anchor supports for families, educators, leaders, and community partners in the science of reading.

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce aims to increase student achievement through improving language and literacy outcomes for all students. A successful language and literacy framework is built on five interrelated components—teacher capacity, shared leadership, multi-tiered systems of support, parent partnerships and community collaboration. The data in this Kindergarten through Grade 4 Literacy Report provides insight into some of the improvements made over the past year and challenges that remain in working to ensure students are proficient readers.
