Why was my school identified?
Schools can be identified for a variety of reasons. They can be identified due to overall performance on Ohio's report card or due to subgroup performance, as outlined in the
Entry and Exit Criteria document.

What are the requirements that come with district and school identifications?
Each identified district and school will have required actions based on the specific identification they receive. Requirements will include assembling the District Leadership Team (DLT) or Building Leadership Team (BLT) to examine data and develop improvement plans through the ED STEPS platform. These plans need to be developed in collaboration with stakeholders, address reasons for identification, include evidence-based strategies, align fiscal resources, and identify and address resource inequities.

What supports are there for identified districts and schools?
When identified for Comprehensive or Targeted support, districts and schools are eligible for support and resources from the Department including grant funding, support from State Support Teams, support for monitoring the implementation of their improvement plans and on-site collaborative reviews. What data was used to identify schools for support and where can I find the data?
Schools are identified for support in three groups – Comprehensive, Additional Targeted, and Targeted. The
Ohio Schools Report Card is used for identification. The calculation for Comprehensive Support is based on all available data from each school’s report card and the federally calculated four-year graduation rate. The Targeted and Additional Targeted ratings are calculated by subgroup performance for each school.

How do I get out of this status?
Comprehensive Support and Improvement Schools (CSI) must show consecutive years of improvement, and that improvement is measured in comparison to their performance at the time of identification. Additional Targeted Support and Improvement Schools (ATSI) must show consecutive years of subgroup improvement for their identified subgroup(s), and that improvement must be higher than the performance at the time of identification. The Targeted Support and Improvement Schools (TSI) are identified and exit annually based on the school’s student subgroup level that lead to the identification as a TSI school.

How does my school exit a status?
Exit criteria is based upon the designation label that the school has. For CSI and ATSI designations, buildings must demonstrate sustained, consecutive years of improvement above their original performance that led to their identification. Why did the names change from Priority, Warning and Focus to CSI, ATSI and TSI?
The building identification names were changed to align with the federal language in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). These name changes also clearly define the types of support schools received: comprehensive support or targeted support.

How long will I have this designation?
CSI and ATSI designations are for three years while TSI is an annual designation. For more information about exit criteria, please review the

I had one of the old designations (Priority, Focus, and Warning), and now I have a new designation. Does anything change?
All identification statuses were reset in Spring of 2023, except for Priority (CSI) schools identified in FY19 (school year 2018-2019), which must remain in that status until they have two consecutive years of data necessary to meet the exit criteria.

How does this affect my One Plan? Do I need to revise it?
Yes, districts and buildings will be required to update the One Plans. Upon receiving identification notifications, districts and schools should assemble their District Leadership Team (DLT) or Building Leadership Team (BLT) to revise their One Plan to address the reason(s) for identification.

My district or school was identified as Watch in the past, but not now. Is this still a designation?
Watch designations have been changed to Student Group Accountability lists. These lists, as required by State law, will identify if schools and districts have shown satisfactory achievement and progress related to the following subgroups: English learners, students with disabilities, economically disadvantaged and gifted students.
