Seeking teachers to serve on Ohio Educator Standards Board, nomination required

The State Board of Education is accepting nominations for teachers in a school district to serve on the Ohio Educator Standards Board for the term of June 2024 through June 2026.

The Educator Standards Board meets seven times a year. All meetings are held in Columbus, and meeting dates are posted on the board’s webpage. Travel, hotel accommodations, and substitute teacher costs are covered by the board; however, meals are not. This is a two-year voluntary commitment.

As part of the nomination application, the teacher must first complete a separate nomination form and secure a letter of support from their district and superintendent that must be submitted to the State Board of Education. Applicants may nominate themselves to serve.

Please note the deadline to submit a nomination form is March 1. Educator Standards Board applications are being accepted through March 15.

Submissions that meet the criteria will be forwarded to the Executive Committee of the State Board of Education for consideration. The Executive Committee will select two nominations for each open seat on the Educator Standards Board and these nominations will be sent to the State Board of Education to then appoint one nominated teacher per open seat at the June 2024 meeting of the State Board of Education.

Nomination applications are being solicited for the following open school district teacher seats on the Educator Standards Board for the term September 2024 through June 2026:

• Elementary School Teacher;
• Middle School Teacher;
• Local Professional Development Committee member;
• Preschool Teacher;
• Secondary School Teacher.
