Ohio’s delegates announced for United States Senate Youth Program

2/5/2024

The United States Senate Youth Program is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school seniors interested in pursuing careers in public service. Two student leaders from each state spend a week in Washington, D.C. experiencing their national government in action. Student delegates hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials from the departments of State and Defense, and directors of other federal agencies, as well as participate in a meeting with a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ohio’s delegates for the 62nd annual United States Senate Youth Program are Wright Chen and Sudhiksha Ramesh. Wright is a student at Oakwood High School in Dayton and Ramesh is a student at Solon High School.

In March, they will join Senator Sherrod Brown and Senator J.D. Vance for this extremely competitive merit-based program that provides students with an intensive, weeklong study of the federal government and the people who lead it. The two student delegates also will receive a $10,000 college scholarship for undergraduate study.

Alternates for the 2024 program are Shahana Kalyanasundaram, who attends Olentangy Liberty High School, and Lahari Donepudi, who attends Dublin Jerome High School.

More information about the United States Senate Youth program is available on the national program webpage. Ohio’s selection process is on the Department’s program webpage, along with the press release.
