The Ohio Department of Education’s Office of Nutrition is hosting a Summer Food Service Program Summit themed Healthy Meals, Healthy Kids. The summit will be Feb. 6 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Mid-Ohio Food Collective in Grove City. The summit will allow summer meal program providers, community partners and Summer Food Service Program stakeholders to improve summer food access across Ohio.

Presentation topics include program best practices, tips for completing the program application, successful program compliance navigation, farm to summer programming, meal planning, summer food safety, procurement and developing community partnerships. Register for the event at 2023 Summer Summit Registration. Registered attendees will receive session materials by email before the event.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture funds the Summer Food Service Program and the Ohio Department of Education administers it. The program reimburses sponsors for costs to provide meals for children 18 years of age and younger during periods when they are out of school. In summer 2022, more than 2,000 Ohio sites served more than 3 million meals. Summer meal sites provide activities, education and services to nourish the whole child. These sites include Ohio parks, libraries, playgrounds, recreation centers, schools, hospitals and more. Direct questions to Elizabeth Douglass at Elizabeth.Douglass@education.ohio.gov.
