No-cost training helps communities respond to addiction

7/25/2022

On Sept. 8, plan to attend enCompass, a comprehensive training on navigating addiction for Ohioans. Governor DeWine’s RecoveryOhio Initiative, Addiction Policy Forum and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services sponsor the training.

This eight-hour training session is virtual and open to all adults who want to learn more about addiction and have the skills to respond. Attendees often include families, friends, caregivers, clergy, law enforcement, first responders, health care providers, employers, educators, community-based service providers and anyone interested in learning how to respond to substance use or co-occurring disorders.

Like CPR, the course builds the skills to support and respond to someone who needs help. The training also will help participants navigate the resources available in their own communities.

enCompass participants will learn:

  • How to identify the signs and symptoms of addiction;
  • How to help an individual in need of support;
  • The effects of stigma on individuals and families; and
  • How to set healthy boundaries and principles of self-care.

All participants receive a certificate at the completion of the course.

Please register here by Aug. 28 to receive a participant manual by mail in advance of the training. Participants who register later may not receive the manual before the event. Learn more on the enCompass website.
