June learning opportunities from OCALI

5/31/2022

Kick off summer with learning opportunities from OCALI. June webinars address topics like Assessments for Learners Who Are Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Blind/Visually Impaired, Braille and autism spectrum disorder identification.

On June 2, 9 a.m.-noon, join “Unlocking the English Code: Assessments for Learners Who Are Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Blind/Visually Impaired.” OCALI’s Outreach Center for Deafness and Blindness will engage with low-incidence partitioners as they:

  • Identify layers of assessment and how to use data from each layer;
  • Dive into supports and accommodations that give access to assessments for learners who are deaf/hard of hearing or blind/visually impaired; and
  • Apply the learning to case studies that will help transfer this session to direct practice.

From beginners to experienced Braille users, OCALI’s Summer Braille Series has something for everyone:

  • “Basic Braille” is June 13, 20 and 27. It will provide basic instruction in braille for paraprofessionals, parents and teachers. The course introduces and reviews the Braille alphabet, punctuation, simple formatting and more. Learn more and register.
  • “Advanced Braille” is June 15, 22 and 29. This course is for educators who need advanced instruction in contracted Unified English Braille (UEB) and formats in which it is transcribed. The course consists of two video conference sessions with four more lessons that participants will complete independently between sessions. Learn more and register.
  • “Basic Nemeth” is June 7, 14, 21 and 28. Attendees will review the basic Nemeth Code for math and science notation. This course will cover the Nemeth Code notation appropriate for kindergarten to middle school curricula. Learn more and register.
