In its first year, Ohio’s Adult Diploma Program graduates 78 adults

A total of 78 Ohioans who did not graduate on time now have high school diplomas due to Ohio’s new Adult Diploma Program. The Adult Diploma Program provides job training and new pathways for adults, ages 22 or older, to earn high school diplomas and industry credentials aligned to one of Ohio’s in-demand jobs. What makes this program different from a traditional high school setting is the delivery of instruction to adults.

College Credit Plus deadline extended to April 22 for setting up SAFE account to participate

Families of nonpublic and home school students who have submitted an intent to participate in College Credit Plus for the 2016-2017 school year now have until Friday, April 22, to establish a SAFE account and apply for College Credit Plus funding. This is an extension of the previous April 8 deadline. It also provides more time for students to contact colleges for information, application forms and criteria for acceptance into College Credit Plus. Students must be accepted into a college before they can participate in College Credit Plus.

Community Connectors Grant applications now open

For a second year, $10 million has been made available for the Community Connectors Grant. Community organizations, faith- or values-based groups and businesses are being asked to partner to encourage mentorship in Ohio’s schools and help give more students access to role models who can motivate and inspire them. Nonprofit organizations from the faith- or values-based and civic communities are eligible to lead projects.

Straight A application period opens April 22

The application period for the Fiscal Year 2017 Straight A Fund grant will open April 22 through May 6. Ohio’s biennial education budget dedicated $15 million for FY17 to help Ohio schools launch creative new ideas for improving education. The grant application and more information can be found on the Ohio Department of Education’s website.

Early Childhood Education grants for FY17 now open

The application for Early Childhood Education grants for FY17 is now available to eligible programs. Early Childhood Education grants currently provide high-quality early learning preschool to more than 13,546 preschool children statewide. With an additional $10 million allocated for the 2016-2017 academic school year, an additional 2,450 children will receive services. A list of programs that received the notification of eligibility and invitation to apply is available on the Early Childhood Education Grants Web page.
