From the Superintendent

Last week I mentioned the Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award banquet where I spoke to award winners, their parents and educators. Before leaving that topic, I want to point out that this is the 25th year the Ohio Educational Service Center Association has offered the awards. I congratulate the association and its members for recognizing hundreds of outstanding students who have achieved academically and provided important service to their schools and communities.

On another note, the first round of field tests for Ohio’s Next Generation Assessments is complete, and I’m happy to report that the tests went well overall. I appreciate the district technology coordinators who worked to make updates that enabled Ohio students to take the PARCC math and English language arts tests as well as the AIR science and social studies tests. I also thank the 180,000 students and their teachers who participated in all of these field tests. These individuals have helped Ohio take a big step toward building a better testing system.
