Additional regional meeting added for Cleveland area on Feb. 3

Due to popular demand, another regional training session has been added in Independence on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Anyone who has not yet attended one of these meetings can register. Those registered for the Monday, Feb. 2 session also may change their registrations to Feb. 3, if that date is more convenient.

2014 deafblind child count in progress through Jan. 30

The Ohio Center for Deafblind Education conducts a statewide child count of children and students, ages birth through twenty-one, with the combination of vision loss and hearing loss. The center will be conducting the 2014 child count now through Jan. 30. This yearly census is required under federal regulation in order to identify children with deafblindness in Ohio.

Training sessions to help school leaders with student growth measures

Superintendents, superintendent designees, principals and other school leaders who will make decisions about educator evaluations are encouraged to select a half-day training session about student growth measures in February or March. Participants will learn how to enter teacher and principal student growth measure data into the electronic Teacher and Principal Evaluation System (eTPES), which will open for that data entry on Feb. 3. Attendees also will learn how the electronic system will calculate student growth measure ratings and determine final summative ratings.

Recommendations open for Ohio’s Talent Pool

Recommendations are being accepted for Ohio’s Talent Pool. The state of Ohio maintains a file of classroom leaders consisting of distinguished teachers and principals. These educators may be considered for membership on advisory boards and task forces, as well as candidates for special recognition programs.

Human Trafficking overview guide and webinar available online

The U.S. Department of Education released a guide called “Human Trafficking in America’s Schools,” which provides a helpful overview for educators and school personnel about trafficking and how to identify it. The guide provides sample response protocols for how to respond to both suspected and confirmed cases of human trafficking.
