The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires states to ensure the total number of students assessed in each subject using the Alternate Assessment for Students with the Most Significant Cognitive Disabilities (AASCD) does not exceed 1.0% of the total number of all students in the state who took Ohio’s State Tests. The draft waiver extension request is available for public comment through Nov. 14.

School Food Authorities must no longer collect any breakfast or lunch meal money from children who qualify for reduced-price meals. The State of Ohio is partially reimbursing schools for reduced breakfast and lunch meals served.

Ohio law requires each school district, community school and chartered nonpublic school that enrolls girls in grades 6-12 to provide free feminine hygiene products. Schools previously submitted requests for reimbursement of menstrual product dispensers. The Department will release funds for dispensers as part of the November school foundation payments (Nov. 9, 14 and 15). The Department will make payments to nonpublic schools Nov. 9.
