Ohio Military Veteran Educators Program

The Ohio Military Veteran Educators Program (OhioMVEP) assists service members, veterans and their spouses begin a career inside the classroom as an educator or outside the classroom in a classified support role. 

OhioMVEP offers career counseling free-of-charge, and there is no commitment necessary. The program does not directly place participants in jobs but will provide consultation as they seek employment in an Ohio PreK-12 school or district.

Your path to a career in education

The Ohio Military Veteran Educators Program will provide career counseling to assist with your transition to becoming an educator. There are licensing opportunities available for those with or without a bachelor’s degree, as well as financial assistance to help cover the costs associated with obtaining an Ohio Teaching License. Employment Opportunities in School Support Roles 

School support staff are classified employees who help the school function on a day-to-day basis. These positions include non-teaching roles such as secretaries, clerical staff, paraprofessionals, custodians, bus drivers, food service employees, maintenance workers, and many others. Service members, veterans, and military spouses may be eligible for a hiring bonus.

Military Recruit Award  

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce will offer financial reimbursements for districts or schools that provide a hiring bonus to military individuals who remain employed with the school for at least one year. DEW will also offer a bonus to the district or school for hiring and recruiting an eligible military individual. Visit the Military Recruit Award webpage for more information.  

SkillBridge in Ohio Schools

The SkillBridge program provides schools with a unique opportunity to address staffing needs by connecting with a diverse pool of highly skilled, disciplined, and motivated military service members. This program allows transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience in classified or certificated roles while serving as interns during their final 180 days of active duty, with their salary and benefits fully covered by the military throughout the internship.
